LEADERSHIP & CONSULTING

Leadership is not about authority — it is about awareness, conscience, and choice.

Speaking, executive consulting, and narrative stewardship — grounded in more than three decades of teaching, scholarship, and lived work with leaders.

PHILOSOPHY

What Is Authentic Leadership?

Leadership begins with a simple truth: it does not inherently require a moral compass. Throughout history, people have followed leaders for reasons both noble and destructive. At its core, leadership is about motivation — about what makes people believe that someone else's vision aligns with their own sense of direction. A leader can inspire through integrity or manipulate through fear; both are forms of influence. This is precisely what differentiates leadership from authentic leadership.

Authentic leadership is something deeper. It is the practice of guiding others toward decisions that fulfill their own purpose — personally and professionally — rather than serving the ego or agenda of the leader. It calls individuals to draw upon their conscience, their values, and their inner moral compass to create change that benefits others, not just themselves. Authentic leadership recognizes that every person has free will: the choice to elevate, to serve, to empower — or to exploit.

In the work that Dr. Robert Cuomo and I developed together, we explored this essential truth: that authentic leadership is not about authority, but about awareness; not about control, but about conscience; not about shaping followers, but about helping people discover the direction that is already within them.

THE HEART OF THE WORK

Leaders are shaped by the choices they make, the conscience they carry, and the stories they live.

My leadership work is built on a simple truth: leaders are shaped by the choices they make, the conscience they carry, and the stories they live. Across my books — from the character-driven journeys in The Authentic Leader, Differencia, and The Verdict to the philosophical explorations in Leadership Is a Choice and The Leadership Gene — I explore how real leadership emerges through challenge, free will, and personal growth.

Whether leaders are born or made, whether they serve or seek to be served, whether they rise or retreat when tested — these are the questions that define us. My speaking and podcast conversations invite people to examine their own leadership story, connect with the struggles and triumphs of the characters, and discover how authentic leadership takes shape in their own lives.

Topic 08

Free Will, Responsibility, and the Choices That Matter

Every leader has a choice. This keynote explores what happens when we acknowledge that freedom, embrace that responsibility, and make choices that reflect our values.

WHY HIRE ME AS A SPEAKER?

Real insight, lived experience, and the ability to make complex ideas matter.

I speak not from theory alone, but from decades of teaching leadership, consulting with leaders and organizations, and writing books that explore the real choices leaders face. My speaking is rooted in scholarship but grounded in lived experience — and it's designed to make people think, feel, and act differently.

Whether I'm exploring the philosophy of authentic leadership, unpacking the stories that shape us as leaders, or examining the choices that define character, my talks invite participants into genuine reflection. I don't offer quick fixes or motivational platitudes. I offer real insight into what leadership demands, and I trust my audience to bring that insight back into their own lives.

The goal is never applause — it's awakening. By the end of a talk, participants should feel the weight of their choices, the power of their conscience, and the responsibility that comes with leading others.

NARRATIVE STEWARDSHIP

My Role as a Narrative Steward

Narrative stewardship is the work of translating lived experience into meaningful narrative form. It is not ghostwriting — it is partnership. A narrative steward listens deeply, asks thoughtful questions, and works alongside you to turn your story into a book that resonates, challenges, and endures.

This is the work I do for clients who have a story to tell — those who have navigated significant challenges, built something meaningful, or simply lived in a way that matters. Whether your story is about resilience, faith, leadership, or the human search for meaning, stewardship honors both the person and the story.

I guide you through the entire process: from articulating your voice and vision, to structuring your narrative, to ensuring that every page reflects who you are and what you want to say to the world. The goal is a finished book that belongs entirely to you — one that will outlast us both.

"Narrative stewardship is not about writing for someone; it is about writing with them. It is a collaborative, interpretive process rooted in deep listening, emotional presence, and the ability to translate lived experience into meaningful narrative form."

THE NARRATIVE STEWARDSHIP PROCESS

A guided, end-to-path path from first ideas to finished book.

1

Discovery & Vision

We begin by understanding your story, your voice, and what you want your book to accomplish. Through deep listening and thoughtful questions, we articulate the vision that will guide the entire process.

2

Narrative Development

Together we structure your story, shape your voice, and begin translating your lived experience into narrative form. This phase builds the foundation for everything that follows.

3

Drafting & Refinement

I guide you through the writing process, offering feedback, suggestions, and support. We refine language, deepen emotional resonance, and ensure your authentic voice comes through on every page.

4

Editing & Polish

Once the manuscript is complete, we move through comprehensive editing — structural, line editing, and copyediting — to ensure the book is polished, professional, and ready for publication.

5

Design & Production

I guide you through cover design, interior formatting, and the production process, ensuring your book reflects the quality and professionalism of the story it contains.

6

Publication & Launch

From choosing a publishing path to launching your book into the world, I provide guidance and support. Your book is ready to find its readers and make its impact.
